About ‘Flying the Icon: Spitfire’

Published by Fighting High in landscape format on high quality paper, the 178-page book contains over 100 superb photographs. The new book takes an entirely different look at the iconic Spitfire, putting the reader in the pilot’s seat with insights into what it is like to fly many of the Spitfire variants. Tracing the complete evolution of the famous fighter, the variants covered range from the prototype K5054, through the Mk 1, Mk IIa, Mk Vb, Mk VIII, Mk IX/VXI and PR Mk XIX to the post-war F.18/22/24.

Using original Pilot’s Notes and flight test reports, alongside modern flight reference documents and pilot’s reports, the book details how the Spitfire was and is flown, with quotes from wartime pilots and modern ‘warbird’ operators, including BBMF fighter pilots. This book gives the enthusiast the best possible idea of how to fly the icon that is the Spitfire!

If you can’t wait to discover whether you’ve won the prize and want one for Christmas, ‘Flying the Icon: Spitfire’ is available now from various retailers, including Amazon.
