Official Club calendar 2024 – September photo

During 2024 we are presenting the image from the Club calendar in the newsletter for that month, with some details about the picture, including when and where the photo was taken. For September we chose the action-packed photo, taken by Club member Caroline Haycock, of BBMF Spitfire Mk IX MK356 in close formation with Hurricane Mk II LF363.

We chose the photo for the calendar because the zoom lens makes the aircraft look incredibly close to each other and the two different camouflage schemes make it very colourful. (Sadly, of course, Spitfire MK356 was seriously damaged in the tragic accident on 25th May this year, which claimed the life of BBMF pilot Squadron Leader Mark Long.)

Caroline tells us that the photo was taken at the Teeside Airshow in June 2022 at a focal length of 600mm and shutter speed of 1.320s. She also said: “It was an incredibly blustery and windy day as I remember it and I was fully expecting to see a few cancellations to the schedule. I was so pleased (and a bit amazed) when the BBMF fighters appeared. Just amazing flying from the pilots in the conditions as it must have been really bumpy up there and I was also pleased that I managed to get anything in focus!”
