Club prizes and winners – January to March 2024
All members of the RAF Memorial Flight Official Club are automatically entered into our monthly prize ballots to win some special prizes. These were the ballot prizes for the months of January to March 2024 and the lucky Club members who won them.
January ballot prize – A Haynes Manual for the Avro Lancaster
The Club ballot prize for January 2024 was a copy of the Haynes Manual for the Avro Lancaster. This highly detailed book is based primarily on the BBMF’s Lancaster based at RAF Coningsby, with the world-renowned Haynes Manual treatment and with the full co-operation and authorisation of the Royal Air Force. This brilliant fact-packed Haynes Manual provides a wonderful insight into the engineering and construction of the famous aircraft.
Winner: Johan Sundin from Sweden
February ballot prize – Four tickets for the East Lancashire Railway
In February one lucky Club member won four tickets for the East Lancashire Railway. This heritage railway line runs for 12.5 miles between Heywood in Greater Manchester and Rawtenstall in Lancashire. It has a rich history dating back to when the first trains arrived in Bury Station in the 1840s. The Railway kindly donated four tickets for the prize winner and three guests to take a free return journey on the line. You can read more about the Railway on the website https://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/
Winner: Philip Watts from Staffordshire
March ballot prize – BBMF Spitfire cockpit experience
In March one lucky member of the RAF Memorial Flight Official Club won a ‘money cannot buy it’ opportunity to sit in the cockpit of a BBMF Spitfire at the Flight’s home at RAF Coningsby, to experience what it is like. The winner will be allowed to climb into the cockpit of one of the BBMF’s airworthy Spitfires and the controls and instrumentation will be explained to them by a pilot who has flown the Flight’s Spitfires. The winner can bring up to three guests to take photographs and to share in the experience of a tour in the centre of the BBMF hangar, up close to the aircraft, with an expert guide.
Winner: Julie Louth from Derbyshire
