Official Club calendar 2025 – January photo

During 2025 we will continue to present the image from the Club calendar for that month in the newsletter, with some details about the picture, including when and where the photo was taken. All the photos in the calendar were taken by Club members.

For January 2025 we chose this spectacular image of BBMF Spitfire Mk Vb AB910, taken by Club member Will Swain, because it perfectly showcased the classic Spitfire shape in planform.

Will tells us that the photo was taken when Spitfire AB910 conducted a flypast over the Marehay Show, at Ripley, Derbyshire, on 2nd September 2023. He went on to say: “During the second pass, it quite literally flew right over my head so I pointed my camera and hoped I was in focus and had the right settings! Definitely a right place, right time moment but a memory which I will never forget!”

Spitfire AB910 is due to return to the BBMF in February 2025 after an extended ‘Major’ maintenance programme at Biggin Hill. It will then be painted with its new colour scheme, still with D-Day invasion stripes, in the Serco paint bay at RAF Coningsby.
