Ballot prizes Jan to Mar 23

Club prizes and winners – January to March 2023

All members of the RAF Memorial Flight Official Club are automatically entered into our monthly prize ballots to win some special prizes. These were the ballot prizes for the months of January to March 2023 and the lucky Club members who won them.

January ballot prize – A copy of Peter Farrington’s Falkland Islands book

One lucky Club member won a copy of Peter Farrington’s book ‘Falkland Islands – From War Comes Beauty’. Peter Farrington is not only a talented photographer, he is also part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s public relations team which attends air shows to help promote the Flight. Peter has carried out seven deployments to the Falklands with the RAF over the past 20 years. He has seen many changes, including completing the mine clearance from the 1982 war. In his book, he shares the stories of the conflict through his photography, where the battles took place, the wild, rugged yet stunning scenery and the wonders of the wildlife that inhabit the islands.

Winner:           Derek Cross from West Sussex

February ballot prize – A signed BBMF leather jacket

In the February ballot one lucky Club member won a genuine Battle of Britain Memorial Flight leather jacket, signed by BBMF crew. These top-quality leather jackets are made by Aviation Leathercraft and retail new at £492. This jacket is a real piece of BBMF history and has been worn by various members of the Flight, flown in BBMF aircraft, and is signed inside by BBMF aircrew and ground crew past and present.

Winner:           David Rolfe from Cambridgeshire - kindly donated back to the Club for us to give away another month

March ballot prize – BBMF Experience Day

The Club's ballot prize for March was the fantastic, ‘money cannot buy it’, chance of a lifetime for a Club member and up to three guests to have an Experience Day with the BBMF at RAF Coningsby on Saturday 24th June. The winner and their guests will experience the activity during a typical BBMF flying day from behind the scenes, with the engineers preparing the aircraft, the aircrew planning and briefing, the aircraft starting up, taxying out, departing and returning. There will be opportunities to meet and chat with the BBMF pilots, crews and ground crew during the day and to watch the aircraft coming and going from a very privileged stand point. There will also be the chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with the BBMF aircraft, those involved in the flying and others in the Flight’s hangar. The winner is sure to have a very special day.

Winner:           Simon Smith from Leicestershire
