Official Club 2025 calendar – October photo

During 2025 we are presenting the image from the Club calendar in the newsletter for that month, with some details about the picture, including when and where the photo was taken. All the photos in the calendar were taken by Club members.

For October we chose this dramatic and dynamic photo by Club member Stephen Procter of BBMF Hurricane Mk II LF363 in the temporary Battle of Britain markings it wore in 2017-18.  

Steve tells us:

“The image of BBMF Hawker Hurricane II LF363 was taken at RAF Fairford on the Saturday of the 2018 Royal International Air Tattoo. The Hurricane was departing to commence the BBMF display, which included the special 'Trenchard' formation to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the formation of the Royal Air Force. The formation featured the Lancaster, Dakota, two Hurricanes and three Spitfires.  For the 2017-18 display seasons LF363 carried different markings on each side, representing aircraft of two squadrons which flew in the Battle of Britain and commemorating the individual pilots. The port side, as featured in my photograph, shows 'GN-F', an aircraft of 249 Squadron flown by Wing Cdr Tom Neil DFC and Bar, AFC. I would like to think of the image as a tribute to Tom, who had sadly passed away only a few days earlier.  On this occasion I was using a Nikon D5500 along with a Sigma 150-500mm lens.”
