Official Club calendar 2025 – August photo

The RAF Memorial Flight Official Club 2025 calendar photo for August was this dramatic image of BBMF Hurricane Mk IIC PZ865 (right) and Spitfire Mk Vb AB910, taken by Club member Andy Bell.

Andy tells us that he took the photo in September 2023 at Blackpool Airport. He further explained that: “The BBMF was participating in the Southport airshow and used Blackpool as their operating base. Spitfire Mk Vb AB910 and Hurricane Mk IIC PZ865 were prepped and ready to fly when a heavy summer squall passed over the airfield and stopped all activity for a short while. Ten minutes later, a break in the cloud allowed the activities to resume and this moody image reflects the unpredictability of the British summer.”

“The photo was taken using a Canon EOS 5D and EF 24-70mm f2.8 USM lens at a focal length of 45mm, aperture of f5, 1/800 second shutter speed and ISO 100 finished with some light work in photoshop to remove blemishes and increase the mood of the sky.”
