The BBMF is extremely proud to be the 2023 recipient of The Award of Honour from The Honourable Company of Air Pilots (otherwise known as “The Air Pilots”) for “an outstanding and enduring contribution to aviation, not least operating as a living memorial to aviators killed in the service of the nation”. OC BBMF, Squadron Leader Mark Sugden, was invited to The Air Pilot’s Trophies and Awards Banquet at the Guildhall in the City of London on Thursday 26th October, along with two of the BBMF groundcrew engineer NCOs and two members of the BBMF admin staff, to receive the award on behalf of the BBMF.

Aero Legends Dakota to overwinter with the BBMF at Coningsby

With the BBMF C-47 Dakota ZA947 still away undergoing its scheduled ‘Major’ servicing at Duxford and its return date slipping (the latest estimate for its return is March 2024), the BBMF has a Dakota-sized space available in its hangar at Coningsby this winter. This has permitted the Flight to repeat the agreement, which worked well last year, of offering over-winter hangarage for the Aero Legends C-47 Dakota KP220 G-ANAF, in exchange for the BBMF pilots and crews being able to conduct some pre-season training in the Dakota before air-testing the Flight’s own ‘Dak’ after its ‘Major’, and before flying the Lancaster in 2024.
